DAHLONEGA - [watch] Like a number of Northeast Georgia teams, the Lumpkin County Indians find themselves in a new region and sub-region this year.
But unfortunately for Lumpkin County, their sub-region still includes powerhouse North Hall and contenders White County and Chestatee. And the teams that have been added, Stephens County and Franklin County are no slouches.
Heading into 2010, Lumpkin County coach Tommy Jones says that he has a few players that he can lean on.
One of those is starting quarterback Taylor Guthrie, who has been on the varsity for two years and took the snaps for the Indians a year ago.
The other strong spot will be the defensive line. Senior Michael Flanagan will anchor a group that will need to step up early in the season as the Indians break in some new linebackers.
Lumpkin County is yet to have a winning season under Tommy Jones, but they've come awful close. A 5-5 campaign in 2007 has been followed by a pair of 4-6 seasons.
Things won't be easy this season as the taem has to travel to rival White County and to North Hall's Brickyard, but they will get to host Stephens County and Franklin County on their home turf.
