FLOWERY BRANCH - [watch] The last two years have been nothing short of amazing for the Flowery Branch Falcons. The team made it to the state semis last season and to the state title game in 2008.
But in both of those seasons the Falcons were in Class AAA and they had Connor Shaw as their quarterback.
This season neither is true.
Because of the school's growth, the Falcons have moved up to Class AAAA in re-classification.
That means unlike any year in the school's history, they will not play an away game in Hall County. Also, for the first time, they'll play a completely region schedule.
Although the team no longer has to share a sub-region with '09 Class AAA runner-up Gainesville, they move into a region with Class AAAA runner-up Clarke Central.
Also the Falcons have lost star quarterback Connor Shaw to South Carolina. Shaw threw for 30 touchdowns a year ago and ran for 17 more.
In an attempt to fill Shaw's shoes, the Falcons have inherited former Habersham Central quarterback senior Austin Brown.
Brown is no stranger to Class AAAA, having played for the Raiders since his freshman season.
